HeadX Duo

Digital Goniometer and Crosshair Laser

HeadX Duo combines crosshair laser feedback with head worn inertial sensing to enable objective assessment and repeatable measurement of head and neck movement over time.

What does it do

  • Range of Motion

Accurate active range of motion assessment, helping patients refine movement control while enabling clinicians to observe quality, symmetry, and limits of cervical motion.

  • Joint Position Sense

Digital assessment of cervical joint position sense, supporting improved movement accuracy, confidence, and sensorimotor control.

  • Smartphone displaying a detailed application interface on a dark background

    Head Stability

Stability assessment measures how well a patient or athlete can maintain controlled head position during defined static, balance or movement tasks.

Cervical Range of Motion

What it measures: The total angular range of active cervical movement across all planes, recorded in degrees. Because Duo uses an integrated IMU, no inclinometer, goniometer, or external reference target is required..

Cervical Joint Position Sense

What it measures: A patient's ability to accurately relocate their head to a neutral position after active movement — an objective measure of cervical proprioception.

Because Duo uses an integrated IMU, no target wall or fixed testing distance is required. Target is shown in the video to demonstrate accuracy of performance.

FAQ

What is the HeadX Duo?

The HeadX Duo is a head-mounted cervical assessment and rehabilitation device that combines a patented crosshair laser with an integrated nine-axis inertial measurement unit (IMU). It measures and records head and neck movement in real time, capturing range of motion, movement velocity, symmetry, and joint position sense across multiple axes. Data is transmitted via Bluetooth to dedicated iOS and Android applications.

How does the HeadX Duo differ from the HeadX Kross?

The HeadX Kross provides real-time visual feedback through a crosshair laser and is used for clinical assessment and exercise delivery without data capture. The HeadX Duo retains the same crosshair laser and adds objective digital measurement: the integrated IMU captures angular movement data during live use, which is recorded and stored in the companion app. The Duo is designed for practitioners who require quantified, longitudinal outcome data alongside the visual feedback provided by the laser.

What does the HeadX Duo measure?

The HeadX Duo measures cervical range of motion (CROM) across flexion, extension, left and right rotation, and lateral flexion. It also supports Joint Position Sense (JPS) assessment, capturing the angular error between a target position and the patient's repositioning accuracy. Movement velocity, control, repeatability, and left-right symmetry can also be derived from the recorded data.

What clinical assessments can be performed with the HeadX Duo?

The HeadX Duo supports Cervical Range of Motion (CROM) assessment and Joint Position Sense (JPS) testing as primary clinical protocols. It is used in concussion assessment, post-whiplash monitoring, chronic neck pain evaluation, vestibular rehabilitation, and high-performance sports screening.

How is HeadX Duo data accessed and stored?

Data is recorded in real time via the HeadX Duo app on iOS or Android. All session data is stored locally on the clinician's device, ensuring full practitioner control over patient information without dependency on third-party cloud services. Data can be exported for offline analysis, longitudinal tracking, or research reporting.

Who is the HeadX Duo designed for?

The HeadX Duo is designed for physiotherapists, sports medicine clinicians, neurological rehabilitation specialists, and performance practitioners who require objective, repeatable cervical movement data to support clinical decision-making, outcome monitoring, or research.
